Do you want to improve your white water paddling?
So you’ve mastered the basics and fancy taking the plunge into more challenging white water? Possibly getting back in the game after a lengthy break? Or if you just want to polish up those skills, this is the course for you.
At Wild River we will take you through the processes of becoming a more proficient paddler, using a mixture of practical exercises, some bank theory and river reading techniques. Hopefully time on the water with one of our very experience coaches will leave you feeling more confident than ever before!
We can:
- Develop your river reading skills
- Teach you to use the features on the river to your advantage
- Consolidate your eddy line skills to get the most from every turn
- Challenge your skills to move up to harder water
On our intermediate course we will take you to wherever you are comfortable and challenge you to improve your skills.
Our highly qualified and experienced staff will push you at the pace that suits you and prepare you for a higher level of challenge as the course goes on.
Prior to attending any of our skills courses we will ask you to complete our pre-course questionnaire so that we can choose the correct venue and tailor the day to your needs.
Working with small student numbers these courses are tailored to the needs of the individual within the group. We ask you to help us by choosing the right course for you.
We offer this course at two different levels:
Early Intermediate Course
This will start in grade 2 water and will move to grade 3, if it is appropriate for the group. The first day will be spent on grade 2 white water, such as the river Eden, or easy sections of the river Lune. The second day could be spent on grade 3 water, if the group and the coach feel this is appropriate.
Intermediate Course
This may well start on grade 2 white water but we will be expecting to move to grade 3 white water for the second day. It may start on the grade 2(3) section of the river Leven or the classic section of the river Lune.
Please be aware that sometimes we may have to compromise due to water levels. We will always do our best to match you to the correct environment. In the unlikely event that we can’t get appropriate water we may have to postpone the course.
On this course you will have the opportunity to gain one of the Paddle UK White Water Performance Awards (certificate fee payable).
Equipment
For this course you will need:
- A white water kayak with appropriate buoyancy.
- A paddle, helmet and buoyancy aid suitable for white water.
- Sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing such as drysuit and thermals or separates.
If you don’t have all of the above equipment please contact us as we may be able to help with this.
You will also need a hot drink and lunch that you can carry on the river if necessary. |
